Who lives here in Shirokane
The name is said to come from the mansion of a local powerful family in the Nanbokucho period who held so much silver that they were called "Shirokane Choja" (the silver millionaire). From a samurai-residence district in the Edo period, it established itself as an upscale residential area for business figures by the late Meiji period, and in 1998 a women's magazine called the wealthy women of the area "Shiroganese," which popularized the neighborhood's sophisticated image. Access also improved with the opening of the Namboku Line and Mita Line in 2000. Its many historic green spaces and buildings, such as the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum, the Institute for Nature Study attached to the National Museum of Nature and Science (about 200,000 ㎡) and Happo-en, are the face of this neighborhood.Source: "Shiroganese" is largely an image created by a magazine in the late 1990s and is not an expression that represents all actual residents.
