The gateway to Kumamoto, where the Shinkansen, conventional lines and the streetcar meet. You can go to and from Hakata in the 40-minute range, which is ideal for people who travel often within Kyushu. However, the entertainment district is toward Kamitori and Shimotori, about twenty minutes away by streetcar, so if you expect a city-center life just because it is a station area, you will be disappointed. The area around the station gets quiet in the evening, but in exchange rents are lower than in the city center.

The gateway to Kumamoto, where the Kyushu Shinkansen stops and two JR lines and the streetcar meet. Commercial facilities are in the station building, so shopping and dining are all taken care of inside the station. However, the entertainment district is toward Kamitori and Shimotori, about ten-odd minutes away by streetcar, so the area around the station is quiet in the evening. Its greatest strength is that you can go to Fukuoka or Kagoshima on a single Shinkansen ride.
