行徳 · Chiba
A working-class neighborhood on a single line, the Tozai Line, that reaches Nihonbashi and Otemachi without transfers. Rents are cheaper than in Tokyo's Edogawa Ward across the river, and the flat terrain makes life by bicycle easy. (The Indian community known as 'Little India' is a story about Nishi-Kasai on the same line.) It suits single-person households who put living close to work and saving on living costs ahead of stylishness.
Gyotoku is a commuter residential area in southern Ichikawa on the Tozai Subway Line. The Tozai Line runs directly to Otemachi and Nihonbashi, so commuting to the city center is easy, rents are cheaper than in Tokyo, and shopping streets and supermarkets are well developed, making it suitable both for living alone and for families. However, it is low-lying, so there are some flooding concerns, and there is no big entertainment district. It suits single-person households and families who want a direct commute to the city center and good value together.
