Deep mountains in the far northwest of the prefecture, known for waterfalls and hot springs. Nature and tourism are its strengths, but a private car is essential and it is not within Tokyo commuting range.

Daigo is a mountain area in the far northwest of the prefecture, famous for Fukuroda Falls, counted among Japan's three great waterfalls, and for hot springs. Hitachi-Daigo Station is in the town and you can get around via the Suigun Line, but trains are few, so in practice a car is needed. Mito is 45 km and Ueno is 128 km, so it is far from the Tokyo living area. Nature and hot springs are close, but winters are cold and daily conveniences are limited.
