The only village in Kyoto Prefecture, where the station is within the village but trains run only 1 to 2 times an hour, so a car is practically essential. The entire village is a famous Uji tea area, and an old tea-growing tradition continues.

The only village in Kyoto Prefecture, where Okawara Station on the JR Kansai Main Line (a non-electrified single track) is within the village but trains run only 1 to 2 times an hour, so a car is practically essential. The whole village is a famous Uji tea area with a tea-growing tradition that has continued for more than 230 years, and in the Hongo and Imayama areas, inhabited since the Nara and Heian periods, a history remains of managing the forests of Todaiji and Gangoji and carrying timber down the Kizu River; the Takayama Dam, completed in 1969, is also known as a cherry blossom spot. However, you should bear in mind that it takes close to an hour and a half to central Kyoto with train transfers and trains are infrequent, so the burden is large if you commute or attend school. It is a neighborhood that suits retirees and people hoping for a country life who want tea-field scenery and rural living in nature and can travel by car.
