井手町 · Kyoto
A small town in southern Kyoto about 29 minutes to Kyoto Station by rapid train. Access to the city center is not bad, but its small size limits its everyday functions, and it is known as a spring flower spot.
A small town in southern Kyoto Prefecture, about 29 minutes to Kyoto Station by Miyakoji Rapid on the JR Nara Line. Since Tachibana no Moroe, the Minister of the Left in the Nara period, kept a villa here and planted yamabuki (kerria) on the banks of the Tama River (Tamagawa), it has become a famous place appearing in about 300 waka poems since the Heian period, and even now in spring cherry blossoms and yamabuki bloom together and tens of thousands of visitors come every year. However, there are few commercial facilities and the population is small, so you can hardly expect the lively everyday infrastructure of central Kyoto. It suits single-person households and nature lovers who commute to Kyoto and want the riverside scenery sung about in waka and its quietness.
