一宮 · Nagoya
A textile-industry city of the Owari region (a separate city, not part of Nagoya City), and a place where coffee-shop culture is so deeply rooted that it is regarded as the birthplace of Japan's morning-service culture. Commuting to downtown Nagoya is quite realistic on both JR and Meitetsu, and even Gifu is within 15 minutes by limited express, so you share the wider Aichi-Gifu living area. It is distinctly cheaper than downtown Nagoya.
This is Ichinomiya, a textile-industry city in northwestern Nagoya, served by JR and Meitetsu. JR reaches Nagoya Station in about 10 minutes while rents are lower than in the city center, and it is close to the Gifu area as well, which makes wide-area living convenient, so you can combine commuting and good value. However, as a satellite city with high dependence on Nagoya, it has little liveliness at night and on weekends. It is a practical area for families and office workers who want a fast commute and low housing costs.
