Living in Kakamigahara

An aircraft-manufacturing city in southern Gifu Prefecture, next to Kawasaki Heavy Industries' Gifu Works and the Air Self-Defense Force's Gifu Air Base. Rents are clearly cheaper than in central Nagoya, but it takes close to an hour by private railway, which is a burden for daily commuting (30 minutes is possible if the New Rapid via Gifu Station connects well), so it suits people who travel by car or work locally.

About 1 hour to Nagoya including a transfer on the Meitetsu Kakamigahara Line. A city with an Air Self-Defense Force base, it is a bedroom town where Nagoya and Gifu commuters have settled, and studio apartment prices are cheaper than in central Nagoya but about the same as in Nagoya's outer areas. Away from the station, even large supermarkets are hard to reach without a car, and near the base fighter-jet noise is frequent. It suits dual-income couples and newlyweds commuting to Nagoya or Gifu who want to save on rent.
