A small town in Gifu Prefecture, about 30 minutes from Sakahogi Station on the JR Takayama Main Line to Gifu Station and about 50 minutes to Nagoya Station including transfers. From the Sarubami Castle ruins lookout, next to the scenic Nihon Rhine with the rapids of the Kiso River, you can see all the way to Mt. Ontake and central Nagoya, and the more than 100-year-old Yahataike reservoir was also selected among Japan's top 100 reservoirs. However, with no limited express and only all-stops local trains, commuting to Nagoya takes quite a while, and it is a quiet town-sized neighborhood with practically no nightlife. It suits single-person households and car users who commute to Nagoya and want to live leisurely in nature.
