A nature town north of central Gifu with historic resources such as mountain castle ruins. There is no railway station, so a car is essential, and you rely on the Gifu city living area.
A nature town located north of central Gifu. At the summit of the 407 m Mt. Okuwa remain the ruins of Okuwa Castle, the main castle of the Toki clan who ruled Mino Province, and it is counted as a historic place where the Mino Sengoku period began when it fell after a fierce battle with Saito Dosan. The underground water of the Enbara River, selected as one of the Hundred Famous Waters, and specialties such as Rihei chestnuts and renshi (dried persimmons) are known, but with no railway you take a bus to central Gifu and transfer to JR or Meitetsu, and it takes a little over an hour to Nagoya, so daily life is in practice comfortable only with a car. It is a neighborhood that suits retirees and car-owning households who want to live quietly beside nature and an old castle site.
