本巣市 · Gifu
A mountain city on the outskirts of the Nagoya commuter zone, reached only via transfers, so the commute is a burden.
A mountain city on the outskirts of the Nagoya commuter zone, reached by taking JR from Nagoya to Ogaki Station and transferring to the Tarumi Railway. At Neodani stands the Usuzumi-zakura, a cherry tree over 1,500 years old, said by legend to have been planted by Emperor Keitai and counted among Japan's three great cherry trees, and the Neodani Fault, where the fault formed in the 1891 Nobi Earthquake has been preserved as it was, is a national Special Natural Monument. However, getting to Nagoya involves many transfers and few trains, so a daily commute is a burden and many people use a car. It suits nature-loving single-person households and retirees who want to live quietly beside historic and natural sights such as cherry blossoms and earthquake ruins.
