The village with the smallest area in Nara Prefecture, with Ishimi Station on the Kintetsu Kashihara Line, about 1 hour to Osaka Namba including transfers. The Daishi-michi, said to be the road Prince Shotoku walked between Ikaruga and Asuka, runs across the village, and at Shirayama Shrine the 'koshikake-ishi' (sitting stone) where the prince is said to have sat remains. Baseball glove and mitt production began here in 1921 and it is counted as a production center of craftsmanship recognized worldwide, but compared with central Osaka and Nara there are almost no commercial facilities, so everyday infrastructure depends heavily on a car. It suits single-person households and office workers who commute to Osaka and want historical material and a quiet small-town atmosphere.
