Living in Shirokane

Moving from Edo-period samurai estates to the mansions of Meiji business leaders, and then to the 1990s 'Shirokane-ze' image, this is the representative upscale residential area of Minato Ward. Greenery such as the Garden Museum and the Institute for Nature Study makes it quiet and safe. In return, the rent barrier is real, and with no large shopping malls or lively shopping streets you have to go as far as Ebisu or Meguro for dining and shopping.

It is an upscale residential area of Minato Ward along the Tokyo Metro Namboku and Toei Mita lines (Shirokanetakanawa and Shirokanedai). Its refined image, known as 'Shirokane-ze', goes along with quiet streets and good safety. Very high rents are a clear downside and a heavy burden. It suits those who want calm, upscale living with good access to central Tokyo.
