Living in Meguro

A neighborhood with a strong image as a 'refined, quiet upscale residential area'. With four lines effectively connected, Shinjuku, Shibuya and Tokyo Station are all within about 20 minutes, giving excellent proximity between home and work. In return, rents are high even for Tokyo, and the area around the station is centered on offices and shopping streets rather than a large commercial district, so you may be disappointed if you expect a glamorous nightlife district.

It is an upscale residential area of Meguro Ward where the JR Yamanote Line, the Tokyo Metro Namboku Line, the Toei Mita Line and the Tokyu Meguro Line meet. With a neat and calm atmosphere rather than liveliness, it is preferred by businesspeople and foreign residents. As a popular residential area, rents tend to be high, which is a clear downside. Shibuya and Shinagawa are close on the Yamanote Line and it is quieter than Nakameguro, so it suits those who want both access to central Tokyo and a well-kept living environment.
