すすきの · Sapporo
The middle of the city center, full of energy until late at night with restaurants, bars and Ramen Yokocho packed together, so much so that it is called the largest red-light district north of Tokyo and the northernmost in Asia. With two subway lines plus the streetcar, it is effectively the center of Sapporo's transit network. Rents are not very expensive for downtown, but in exchange Chuo Ward is regarded as having the highest crime rate of the city's 10 wards.
This is Sapporo's largest entertainment and nightlife district. Restaurants, bars and karaoke venues are packed together, full of energy until late at night, and dining infrastructure such as Ramen Yokocho is rich. Because it is a nightlife district, the streets at night are hectic and noisy, and opinions are divided on it as a residential environment.
