Itako is a city on the lower Tone River known for its water town and iris (ayame) festival. Itako Station is in the city and connects via the Oarai-Kashima Line, and Tsuchiura is 35 km and Mito is 48 km, both far, so life tends to be self-contained in the city. Waterways and an old atmosphere remain, making it quiet with low rents, but you can hardly expect big shopping or a nightlife district.
