Living in Joso

A multicultural city with the highest proportion of foreign residents in Ibaraki Prefecture (Brazil, the Philippines, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Peru and others), as people keep relocating for jobs in the industrial parks. To reach Tokyo, you transfer to the Joban Line at Toride. It has a history of major flood damage when the Kinu River overflowed in 2015, so if a property is near the river, be sure to check its flood history and disaster-prevention information.

Joso is an agricultural area along the Kinugawa River, the former Mitsukaido and Ishige, served by the Kanto Railway Joso Line. Its strengths are that it is quiet and housing prices are cheap. However, it has a history of flood damage from the collapse of the Kinugawa embankment in 2015, so it is best to check proximity to the river and flood history.
