A quiet, scholarly neighborhood that formed around the Waseda University campus. It is 11 minutes to Otemachi on the Tokyo Metro Tozai Line without a transfer, and Shinjuku and Shibuya are about 20 minutes away via Takadanobaba, so access to central Tokyo is good. The charm lies in the cheap restaurants and bookstore alleys typical of a student district and the old streetcar (Tokyo Sakura Tram) running through, but there is almost no nightlife or lively commercial facilities, so some people may find it dull.

It is the area around the Waseda University campus, served by the Tokyo Metro Tozai Line and the Toei Toden streetcar. With many students, cheap restaurants and share houses are plentiful, and its calm, scholarly atmosphere while close to the city center is its appeal. The shopping district is geared to student demand, so it can become quiet during school breaks. Shinjuku and Takadanobaba are close and living costs are low, making it a neighborhood that is not a heavy burden for international students and new graduates.
