鶴橋 · Osaka
One of the largest Koreatowns in Japan. Osaka Koreatown on Miyuki-dori (over 160 shops) and the Tsuruhashi shopping district, which began as an old black market (6 markets, about 800 shops), densely fill the infrastructure for Korean ingredients, food and clothing, and Korean and Joseon-nationality residents of Ikuno Ward account for about a quarter of the ward's foreign population. It is cheap for central Osaka, so it suits singles and international students who want Korean infrastructure and good value together.
Tsuruhashi is Osaka's largest Korean living area, served by the JR Osaka Loop Line, the Kintetsu Osaka Line and the subway Sennichimae Line. Leaving the station, Ikuno Koreatown's Korean grocers, side-dish shops and restaurants are packed together, so you can get by in daily life with Korean alone, and the Zainichi Korean community is deep, so the burden of the early settling period is lowest. Keep in mind that there are many old shops and homes, so building condition varies widely and the back streets are crowded. With Namba and Tennoji close and the best Korean living infrastructure in Kansai, it is an area especially popular with international students, working holiday makers and Korean families.
