Commute & transport

A transfer station that is the southern terminus of the Karasuma Line and shares tracks with Kintetsu. Both lines reach Kyoto Station in 6 minutes without a transfer, and going toward Osaka is possible without a major transfer burden. It is distinctly cheaper than downtown Kyoto, but in exchange beyond the station area it is an ordinary residential and industrial zone lined with apartments and rail yards, so there is almost none of the liveliness of an entertainment district.

This is a southern hub where the subway Karasuma Line and the Kintetsu Kyoto Line connect. The subway runs directly into Kintetsu, giving good access to downtown Kyoto and toward Nara and Osaka, and low rents make it regarded as a good-value residential area. Beyond the station area it is an ordinary residential and industrial zone, so it tends to be somewhat quiet. It suits families and office workers who want low housing costs along with through transit in every direction.
