Living in Kyoto Station

One of Kansai's leading terminals, where the station building itself is a department store and underground mall. The Shinkansen and many lines converge here, so getting anywhere is easy and shopping and dining are all on foot, but its character is overwhelmingly commercial and transportation-oriented, so it is hard to expect a quiet neighborhood feel. Because it is in the middle of a tourist area, you also have to keep in mind the petty crime typical of entertainment districts.

This is Kyoto's gateway, where the Tokaido Shinkansen meets the JR lines, the subway and Kintetsu. The huge station building with its department store and underground mall makes travel to anywhere in the country easy, and access to the city center and tourist sites is fast. As a transportation and commercial center, purely residential areas are somewhat few. Its strength is overwhelming transit that reaches the Shinkansen and every line, so it suits office workers who travel a lot.
