Living in Shijo-Karasuma

A shopping and business district where Daimaru Kyoto and Nishiki Market are within walking distance and the branches of major banks and securities firms are concentrated. Kyoto Station is 3 to 4 minutes by subway, and it is right in the middle of downtown, where you can walk through an underground passage to Shijo-Kawaramachi. Commuting to Osaka by Hankyu express is not out of the question either, and in exchange, as is typical of downtown Kyoto, rents are somewhat on the high side.

This is the office and commercial center of downtown Kyoto, where the Hankyu Kyoto Line and the subway Karasuma Line cross. Bank and corporate buildings and shopping streets gather here, so business and shopping coexist, and with Kawaramachi within walking distance it is lively and has good transit. Because it is downtown, rents are high and the living environment is somewhat hectic. Access in every direction is easy by Hankyu and the subway, so it suits office workers who want to live close to work.
