Living in Tachikawa

The transport and commercial center of the Tama area, with department stores, large shopping malls and even Showa Kinen Park, called 'the neighborhood in western Tokyo where everything is taken care of'. Shinjuku is within 30 minutes by Special Rapid, but Tokyo Station and Shibuya are clearly farther at 40-something minutes, and the entertainment district north of the station has touts at night, making the two-sidedness between lively district and quiet residential area clear.

It is the largest hub station in the Tama area where three JR lines meet. With abundant commercial facilities such as department stores and cinemas, it is known as the shopping center of western Tokyo, and the greenery of Showa Kinen Park is close. There is an entertainment district north of the station, so it is somewhat hectic at night, and the city center is rather far. In return, reasonable rents and solid daily-life infrastructure are its strengths.
