大宮 · Saitama
The largest terminal in Saitama Prefecture and the gateway to the north of Tokyo, where more than 10 lines gather, counting several Shinkansen lines and conventional lines. It is about 30 minutes to Tokyo Station and in the 30-minute range to Shinjuku, and with department stores, an underground shopping arcade and even a railway museum, its greatest strength is a self-contained living area, but because it is in Saitama Prefecture you should keep in mind the psychological distance of not being Tokyo and the sense of safety in some entertainment district alleys.
It is Saitama's largest terminal, where 12 lines gather: three Shinkansen lines, the JR lines, the Tobu Line and the New Shuttle. Department stores and underground shopping arcades are well developed, and it is also famous for its railway museum. As a huge terminal it is always crowded, and it is good to know that there is an entertainment district in part of the east. Access to Tokyo and various parts of eastern Japan by Shinkansen is quick, and with rents more reasonable than in Tokyo, demand from family residents is high.
