横浜 · Kanagawa
A huge terminal and the center of Kanagawa, where more railway companies gather at a single station than anywhere else in Japan. You can travel to central Tokyo without transferring while rents are lower than in Tokyo's 23 wards, making it a realistic choice for people who want to save on budget within Tokyo's commuting range. However, the station is so large and complicated that how daily life feels differs greatly depending on which exit and which line side you are on.
It is Kanagawa's largest city and Japan's second largest, where the JR lines, the Tokyu Toyoko Line, Keikyu, Sotetsu and the subway meet. With the Minato Mirai waterfront, Chinatown, and department stores and commercial facilities, it has very rich infrastructure of its own. A downside is that it is far from central Tokyo, so commuting times can be long depending on the line. With direct service to Shibuya on the Toyoko Line and a completeness in which most things can be handled within the city, it is highly popular with those who want to commute to Tokyo while living a relaxed port-city life.
