八王子 · Tokyo
Hachioji is the most populous hub city in the western Tama area and a transport hub where the JR Chuo Line, Yokohama Line and Hachiko Line are joined by the Keio Line. With about 20 universities, plus department stores, shopping streets and large shopping malls, it is a self-contained living area, but it has two sides: the city center is more than 40 minutes away, and the many hills can make life on foot or by bicycle somewhat inconvenient.
Hachioji is the largest hub city in the Tama area of western Tokyo, where three lines meet, including the JR Chuo, Yokohama and Hachiko lines. With many universities and plentiful department stores and shopping streets, daily infrastructure is rich. It sits at the far western edge, some distance from central Tokyo. The Chuo Line Special Rapid gives access to Shinjuku, and with cheap rents there is strong demand from students and families.
