葛城市 · Nara
A city in western Nara that is about 30 to 40 minutes to Osaka by express. Ruins connected to ancient tales remain, and it is positioned for commuting to Osaka from a rural setting.
A city in western Nara Prefecture, about 30 to 40 minutes by express from Shakudo Station on the Kintetsu Minami-Osaka Line to Osaka-Abenobashi Station. It is where Taima no Kehaya, the central figure of the ancient sumo origin tale recorded in the Nihon Shoki, lived, and it has the Watayumizuka monument erected in 1809 in honor of the haiku poet Matsuo Basho, so the historical material runs deep. However, compared with central Osaka the commercial area is small and train intervals are wide, so convenience as an entertainment area may be lacking. It suits single-person households and office workers who commute to Osaka and want ancient history and quiet rural scenery.
